Supporters of backing Ukraine say
Ukraine was invaded and is fighting for its survival. If Russia is rewarded for taking land by force, it will not stop there, and America's word to its allies will mean less everywhere.
Skeptics say
The war is far from America's borders and has no end in sight. The money is needed at home, Europe should carry the cost of its own security, and a negotiated peace would save lives even if it is imperfect.
