Why is this a hot topic? See both sides

The war in Gaza that followed the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel set off protests in cities and on college campuses across the United States. A ceasefire took hold in October 2025, but strikes have continued, and the argument over U.S. support for Israel, and over the protests themselves, has not ended.

Supporters of the movement say

Palestinian civilians have paid a terrible price, and American weapons and money made it possible. Protest is how citizens press their government to change course, and Palestinians deserve a state of their own.

Its critics say

Israel was attacked and has a right to defend itself against Hamas, which started the war and held hostages. Some protests have broken rules, disrupted campuses and made Jewish students feel unsafe.
